Sync your Mac with your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone - Contacts, Music, Videos

For iPhone upgraders, there's isn't a way to directly sync your new Nokia Lumia running Windows Phone 7.5 or 8 to your Mac. But the experience isn't too rough either to keep everything neatly synchronized if you follow these simple steps.

Sync your iTunes Music, Videos, Podcasts and iPhoto Photos
1. Open the Mac App Store (not the iTunes App Store)
2. Search for "Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac" or "Windows Phone" or click on the link below.
3. Download, install it and run it
4. Connect your Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone and step up your sync settings

Sync your Contacts entries

This is slightly trickier but the simplest way is to use a Google account to do this. Macs have a sync connector to Google. You do not need to use your existing Google account if you want to keep your life separate. Just set up a new Google account for this purposes.

1. Set up new Google account, or decide which existing Google account to use.
2. Open Contacts on your Mac.
3. Go to "File" > "Preferences" > "Account" tab > "On My Mac".
4. Tick the "Sync with Google" checkbox and complete the account info.
5. Go to your Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone and tap on "Settings" > "Accounts".
6. Add a new "Google" account and specify the settings.

Save it and you're done! It will take a while to sync everything up to Google and then down to your phone, depending on the number of entries you have. But any changes you make on Contacts now will automatically sync with the phone.

*NB: This feature may be removed from July 2013 onwards due to Google terminating support for ActiveSync. Microsoft is working on a solution to support CardDAV for Windows Phone.

Sync your Files

On Windows Phone, one of the great things is to be able to save to the cloud and access your data from the cloud on the phone. There are some built in apps like the Camera app or Office app that automatically does this, but if you are on a Mac, why not save your files to the same Skydrive account and watch them become available on your Windows Phone device!
